A lot going on here in 3rd quarter!
First, some sad news. Mr. Gilewicz was out last week due to a death in his family. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Our first track 4 EARTH SCIENCE FAIR will be this Wednesday March 2nd. Due to the overwhelming response and participation, I will be changing the time from 11:45 -12:45 to 9:30 – 10:30 am to accommodate all of the projects. We are welcoming all parents to attend, but please be patient and supportive as this is a work in progress – not exactly sure how it is going to come together, but it surely will be educational and fun!
OLD SALEM field trip packets came home 2 weeks ago in the Friday folder. Please be sure to complete and send in permission and payment before the due date. We will be traveling on April 28th. All parents are welcomed to attend, but you will need to be a WCPSS registered volunteer. (register in our media center).
INTERIM reports are coming home on Monday. These reports are generated from the WCPSS PowerSchool program and provide grades for each individual reading and math standard taught so far in 3rd quarter. Any concerns or questions feel free to email us!
NEEDS / WANTS: pencils! (how did we run out of them already?) Liquid soap, glue sticks, raffle tickets. Playground balls (used is fine!): soccer, 4 square, basketball. Jump ropes, chalk, skip-its, Frisbees.
Science: Land Forms: how the earth is constantly changing; the processes that cause change, and the evidence of change over billions of years. Students are investigating models of erosion using the stream tables and are researching fast erosion for their DE board assignment. Be sure to ask your child to share their board with you! Our first Earth Science fair is Wednesday and we are looking forward to some fabulous demonstrations of events such as volcano eruptions, earthquakes, landslides and fossil evidence!
Math: Area and perimeter, patterns/functions, problem solving/modeling, fractions.
