Track 1 did a fabulous job in the Battle of the Books competition! We are so proud of all the teams that participated and the sportsmanship that was shown by all.
Our trip to Old Salem is right around the corner. We will be sending home more detailed information closer to the actual date. If you are planning on attending make sure you have been cleared as a volunteer. There will be limited seating on the bus so chaperone carpooling is encouraged.
The Single Subject Acceleration nomination window is April 15-28th for track 1. You can find more information here: http://www.wcpss.net/Page/4429
Spring Pictures (both individual and class) will be taken April 5th.
Finally, we are in need of some more pencils! We burn through them like there is no tomorrow! Thank you in advance for your donations!
Here is a quick overview of our focus in the classroom for the coming weeks:
In math we will begin our study of decimals. We will use decimal notations for fractions with denominators 10 or 100, and compare two decimals to the hundredths place by reasoning about their size. We will round and order decimals as well. Upon completion of this unit we will begin our study of the metric system.
In science this quarter we will be turning our attention to the various forces that affect the motion of an object. We will mainly concentrate on magnetism and electricity.
In reading, we will review and expand upon all of the strategies we've learned this year for both literature and informational text. We will start the quarter with a novel study of The Tale of Despereaux to focus on theme, character development, vocabulary, summarizing, and much more! Then we will focus on nonfiction, practice test taking skills, and hopefully practice and present Reader's Theater plays after EOGs.
In writing, we will be reviewing and expanding upon all of the genres we've studied all year. Students will be writing a persuasive piece about visiting a city in NC, a research piece on a topic related to magnetism or electricity, and a narrative based on the Chris Van Allsburg book: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick.
