Hi Parents!
Welcome Back ! We have had an amazing first week!
Our track 2 group is a total of 9 students!! We are very lucky to welcome our new student, Brady, who moved to North Carolina from Colorado. We are getting to know him and are happy to have him join our little group :)
Dates to Remember:
Weekly Evaluations have changed!
Look for your child's weekly reflection in their Friday folder this week. Please review it with them sign and send back on Monday. Students are reflecting on their own weekly performance, praising their strengths and setting new goals for next week. We are encouraging students to set goals and begin to evaluate themselves in order to become independent and self motivated :)
What are we learning?
This week we've picked up where we left off in reading with Pale as the Moon, learning and practicing reading comprehension strategies as we read aloud together. This historical fiction book tells the story of the colonists arriving on the Outer Banks from the Native American perspective. We are truly enjoying our conversations about NC history and author's craft.
In writing we have begun drafting our first narrative story. We brainstormed some memory moments we've had and chose one to create a story with. First, planning out our beginning, middle and end, then drafting and conferencing with a partner and whole group to help revise our stories and make them more detailed and illustrative.
In math we are learning to multiply by decomposing factors and using place value. We will be using various strategies for using numbers flexibly to multiply. This year we will focus on these strategies before connecting the standard algorithm for multiplication in 5th grade.
Science Investigations with rocks and minerals will continue these next two weeks and we will finish up the unit with a test at the end of the quarter. Please encourage your children to share their science journals with you and explain the investigations to you - using science terms. A study guide will come home before the test to help students prepare and study.
Have a great weekend!
